Keep it Small, Simple, and Separable

Bill Raduchel, former CIO of Sun Microsystems previously extended the KISS principal to KISSS (Keep It Small, Simple, and Seperable). Project success is not a matter of keeping things simple stupid, it was making sure that they were small and separable. Todays CRM and systems that stand the test of time are modular applications and systems that are extendable for years to come. BPMN Support in Visio 2010

If you do not have much experience with process modeling, BPMN, or Business Process Modeling Notation is a graphical representation for specifying business processes in work flow. BPMN is based on flowcharting and its goal is to support business business process management for technical and business users by providing a notation that is intuitive to business users yet able to represent complex process semantics. BPMN is really a tool to make processes easily understood by business analysts, technical developers, business managers, anyone who manages a business or system process. BPMN is intended to bridge the gap between business process design and implementation.

So in the past if you wanted to put together a BPMN process you would have to use an app or a Visio stencil.

According to this MSDN blog Microsoft Visio 2010 will include a BPMN diagram in their templates.

The BPMN template contains 5 stencils of BPMN shapes, BPMN basic shapes, BPMN events, BPMN activities, BPMN gateways, BPMN connecting objects.

The BPMN template will use a lot of new features in Visio 2010 that should make building diagrams easier. We are looking forward to seeing this in the next version of office.

BOT Decision Finalized

The UCF MIS Department is officially slated for termination as of today 7/23/09. The BOT decision was finalized earlier today by the full UCF Board of Trustees. Please visit this page in the future for ways you can connect with UCF MIS graduates and supporters. We will be working with the UCF MISA in the next upcoming months to build a long standing relationship for UCF MIS supporters around the UCF area.

BOT Final Meeting on Program Deletions 7/23/09 1pm Live Oak Center

The final BOT Meeting on the BOT EPC program deletions is tomorrow, July 23, 2009, in the Live Oak Center.

Dr. Larry West will be giving the presentation for the MIS Department. He will have 5 minutes to present to the full Board of Trustees. Dr. West prepared a 14 page document to speak from and mentioned that he will be highlighting at least 2 alternatives to the program eliminations. He will be going over a revised document from the material he presented last week at the BOT EPC meeting. We will do our best to publish this document with his permission because it does an excellent job analyzing the situation at hand and showing the MIS Departments value.

BOT EPC Decision 7/13/09

The B.O.T. Educational Programs Committee voted to approve the Administration’s recommendations and move forward with the proposed department deletions including the UCF MIS Department. Monday was a very somber day for many. The meeting agenda can be found here http://bot.ucf.edu/documents/July13EPCMeetingREVISED.pdf

We are proposing to the BOT a department merger similiar to FSU has done with their general management degree. More information can be found on the FSU MIS website http://cob.fsu.edu/mis/.

We still need everyone to continue to reach out to the Board of Trustees (BOT) in anyway possible, the final hearing for the proposed program deletions to be finalized is on July 23. We hope to build a bond with the UCF MISA in the next upcoming months to maintain a strong MIS presence in the central florida area for years to come. Good luck everyone and please continue to show your support for the UCF MIS Department.
